The sambuk on super-happy-fun-disco mode. alas, these never flew in the ceremony, even in their boring white “on” configuration

The flying machine, lit up pretty-like

I loved the Qaf boat, not least because I had a controller in there to meter the speed and force of the rocking.
(Now I driiiive the bus!)

This is what happens when your electricians are bored and you ask for one volunteer.

Behind the scenes - this is the lower chamber, where all the different stages are wheeled on and off. This is the sun stage: the horse for the final run was loaded in here.

The view of Asia from the winches in one of the rehearsals. It wasn’t always this smooth…

AWESOME. Get Out. I hate you and your ridiculo-neat job. Finally you got out that camera. Oh I’m so thankful. Seriously. The photos rock. I’m so jealous that whatever organ/limb it is that gets jealous the most is going to fall out/off my body. No kidding. Now I’m SPITTING I missed the tv.

it’s weird, but fritz looks exactly like a german/australian engineer i knew back when i lived in the village…like, exactly. is his name really dave?

  3. mark 09/12/2006 at 13h03

Damien - his real name is David Lee, yes. And German/Australian engineer is right, too.

Bean - cheers. It did look pretty spectacular, no? I’m glad I’m not doing it any more, it was a frankly insane amount of work, but it was very cool to be part of it all. Did you find anything on youtube or anything? Surely someone taped it.

ah yes, it is the same guy. we used to hang out together in the early days of the village. he had this awful habit of beginning every sentence with either ‘this one time, in germany…” or “in germany, we have that too, only better in every way”. nice guy, otherwise. say hi to him for me, if you get a chance.

I am loosing my game of CIV3, and it is making me very depressed! I think I will call everyone in at 8am tomorrow for a 1pm rehearsal! that will show them!!! How DARE they set my laptop to hibernate after one minute! And howcome my mouse is moving so slow!! AAARGH i need a smoke…

The whole show looked awesome, Mark, especially from my spot undercover (i.e. not in the rain)! I kept waiting for something to short out or turn into a fireball, but nothing did… well done :-)

Are you still at Brendan’s? I was out of town for awhile but I’m back now and somewhat bored.

  7. mark 12/12/2006 at 19h02

David (if that even is your real name - sounds sorta germanic to me) - perhaps you should return to Hearts. Civ 3 is clearly straining your computer too much, and it needs a rest.

Caryl: You were there? Shit, you shoulda told me - I’d have waved. :)

Still at Brendan’s, and alleviating boredom only by going to masses of sporting events. I’m free tomorrow, but I don’t have your number - email me at mwotton@shimweasel.com or knock on the door…
