Disturbingly cheap tickets 1
You can see the tickets for the Games here.
Tickets for judo seem to be 10 QAR, or about 3 bucks.
… does that sound worryingly cheap to anyone but me? Tickets to the opening ceremony are a reassuring 500 QAR (about $200), but I’m pretty sure you couldn’t get nosebleed tickets to the synchronised swimming at the Sydney Games without leaving a kidney as a down payment.
Anyway, no point looking a gift horse in the mouth. With any luck, I might get the chance to see some world-class judo for the Sydney cost of an indifferently good beer.
Waaaaaa-SMACK!

I’m pretty sure there were lots of cheap events at the Sydney Games, but I may be fuzzy on that because I was working for Westpac at the time and we got $7 tickets for just about anything we could get our names down fast enough for. I did not attend, I dislike crowds. Would love to see some world-class judo though. I went to the Sumo Grand Championship at Edo Stadium and it was bizarre, to say the least. At the end all the guys in the closest seats threw the cushions they were sitting on into the circle and started yelling. I still have no idea what that was all about.
Anyway I wouldn’t let the cheap tickets thing bother you, the relationship between quality and price seems to be a lot more random in Asia, as you probably experienced on your biking adventure.
